Welcome to Bethlehem Covenant's online ministry.

This week's sermon asked the question: "was Jesus a beggar?"  It's an interesting thought since we don't read anything about Jesus or His disciples working during His three year ministry.  There is a sense in which Jesus teaches His disciples (and by extension us) to be beggars.  Jesus encourages us to develop our spiritual lives to a point where we are able to acknowledge our utter dependency and lack of self-sufficiency.  We are all beggars, so far as our relationship with God is concerned.  What we need is not ours to earn.  What we need is only God's to give.  Open your hands and give the gifts you have to give. Open your hands and receive the gifts you need.

Here are some upcoming events on our calendar:

Bible Study--Thursday nights at church at 7pm.  We are studying the Gospel of John.

Our Fall worship Schedule will begin on Sept. 9th.  The worship service will start at 10:30am.  Choir will rehearse at 9:00am.

Movie NightSaturday, Sept. 8th at 6:00pm.  The movie is called “Oh, God!”  Comedian George Burns stars in this as God Himself.  God, in the guise of a wisecracking old gent, decides to makes His presence known to a harried grocery clerk (John Denver) so He can get the message out that "everything on earth can still work if we want it to."  Filled with pithy one-liners delivered by the master, Oh, God! was scripted by "M*A*S*H" creator Larry Gelbart.  Please sign up on the sign-up sheet downstairs or call church office so we have an idea of how many will be coming for pizza.  Pizza at 6pm; movie and discussion to follow.

Men’s Fall Retreat—Oct 5-7th at Pilgrim Pines Conference Center in Swanzey, NH.  The theme of the weekend is “All That God Wants You To Be.”  Brochures are available downstairs in the vestry.  Please see Pastor Dave for more information or check out the website at www.pilgrimpines.org.  Financial assistance is available.

Welcome to Bethlehem Covenant's online ministry.

Last Sunday's sermon was entitled "Called By God."  We talked about God's call to the prophet Jeremiah and how God used him in spite of what Jeremiah thought were all his inadequacies.  God calls us as well to certain tasks and He calls us to BE as well.  It not only matters what we do, but WHO we are is just as important.  God gifts all of us with certain talents or abilities that we can use to glorify Him and help others.  What has God called you to do or what is He calling you to do right now?  Who does He want you to be--what sort of things are you passionate about?  God calls all of us and uses us depsite our sinfulness.  Praise God!

Welcome to Bethlehem Covenant's online ministry.

This Sunday's sermon is called, "A Fiery Faith"  Jesus says He has come to bring fire to the earth (Luke 12:49).  He says He has not come to bring peace, but division--father against son, mother against daughter, etc.  His coming naturally has the effect of dividing people as some will accept Him and others will reject Him.  Faith in Jesus is a serious thing--something that can even divide family members.  Faith in Jesus is a risky, serious thing.  A woman by the name of Marianne Williamson says this: “When you ask God into your life, you think God is going to come into your psychic house, look around, and see that you just need a new floor or better furniture, and that everything needs just a little cleaning—and so you go along for the first six months thinking how nice life is now that God is there.  Then you look out the window one day and you see that there is a wrecking ball outside.  It turns out that God actually thinks your whole foundation is shot and you’re going to have to start over from scratch.”

Here are some upcoming events on our calendar:

Welcome to Bethlehem Covenant's online ministry.

This Sunday's sermon is entitled, "When God Refuses to Listen."  The sermon is from Isaiah chapter 1 and is about hypocritical worship.  God is upset with the people because they do all sorts of "religious" actions, but these actions are not genuine.  They say one thing and then do another.  They go to "church" regularly and then the rest of the time they do not love one another, they do not show compassion, mercy and justice to others.  Their worship is a facade that they hide their evil deeds behind.  God will not stand for this--we need to keep it real with God.

Here are some upcoming events on our calendar:

There will be no Thursday Bible study this week.

Welcome to Bethlehem Covenant's online ministry.

This Sunday's sermon is entitled, "Set Your Mind on Things Above."  It's a sermon on money and greed and how we as Americans especially are used to getting whatever we want--even if it means we go into debt for it.  Why are so many of us in debt and what can we do about it?  What would Jesus say about our personal and national spending habits?  He tells us to be rich toward God and not just concerned about ourselves.  We are to set our minds on things above, not the temporary things of this world.

Here are some upcoming events on our calendar:

Thursday Night Bible study this week at church at 7pm.  We are studying the Gospel of John.

Church Board Meeting--Wednesday Aug. 8th at the home of Mark and Sue Fellion at 6:30pm.

Congregational Meeting--on August 12th after the morning worship service.  This is to vote on the use of undesignated funds to be used for the professional installation of our new sound system.
